Back to School Events Underway for District Students and Families

Columbia Heights Education Campus Hosts Fair and Talent Show

 

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Thursday, August 15, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice (DMPSJ) in partnership with various District government agencies and community organizations, hosted a Back to School Fair and Youth Got Talent Show at the Columbia Heights Educational Campus in Ward 1. DMPSJ and government and community partners hand out book bags, school supplies, clothes, and food and provided haircuts to youth.  

 

“Our Back to School events are more than about school supplies — it’s about providing our families with resources, support and encouragement they need to make this school year a success,” said Deputy Mayor Lindsey Appiah. “Our focus is not only on academic success but also on the overall well-being of our youth, as we work together to create safe, nurturing environments for all students.” 

 

The event also showcased the incredible talents of District youth through the Youth Got Talent Show. Students from across the District displayed their creativity and skills, showcasing the abundance of talent and artistry within the community. 

 

 

This month, DMPSJ invites families to celebrate the Back-to-School season with a series of Back to School events across the District. Beyond school supplies, the events will provide families with what they need to prepare for another great school year there will be agencies that can provide valuable resources for the overall well-being of our community, including library cards, housing voucher assistance, mental health resources, and more.
