(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Bowser Administration public safety officials, alongside local, regional, and federal partners, provided updates on the District's preparations for a series of major summer events and celebrations that begin this weekend, including activities associated with America's 250th Anniversary.
Officials raised awareness of upcoming events, including UFC Freedom 250, 2026 United Bowl, Capital Pride Parade, the FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Zone, and Juneteenth weekend activities, and shared information on anticipated traffic and Emergency No Parking impacts, transportation resources, and tools available to help residents and visitors plan ahead. Residents and visitors can view traffic closures and Emergency No Parking zones at 250.dc.gov.
"As we enter one of the busiest event seasons of the year, our focus remains on ensuring Washington, DC is prepared to safely and successfully host the events, celebrations, and commemorations that bring people together from across the city, region, and country," said Deputy Mayor Lindsey Appiah. "Through strong coordination with our local, regional, and federal partners, we are ready to support these events and showcase the very best of our nation's capital."
Preparing for these events requires close coordination across public safety, transportation, and federal agencies. Together, District and partner agencies are working to support safe and efficient operations, maintain mobility throughout the city, and ensure residents and visitors can enjoy the many events and celebrations taking place this summer.
"We ask everyone to be patient and stay alert as they travel throughout the city in the coming days. These are exciting events and our goal is for everyone to enjoy them safely," said Interim Chief of Police Jeffery Carroll. "Please keep in mind that traffic closures may change rapidly based on real‑time conditions. For the most accurate and up‑to‑date information, monitor MPD’s social media channels throughout the events.”
“The public should review the lists of prohibited items before attending these events,” said U.S. Park Police Deputy Chief Frank Hilsher. “Parents and guardians are encouraged to take a photo of their children in case they become separated and need law enforcement assistance. As usual, report anything suspicious to an officer immediately and follow law enforcement instructions. Our highest priority is the safety and security of everyone in attendance.”
“The coordination between our teams is seamless, and we’re confident that the plans in place will be effective at keeping our protectees and the public safe,” said Tara McLeese, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service Washington Field Office. “We are asking D.C. residents and Americans traveling from across the country to arrive informed and take full advantage of everything our nation’s capital has to offer.”
“America’s Metro System is ready to help visitors and residents alike experience all the National Capital Region has to offer this summer. Metro is the fastest, cheapest, safest, and easiest way to get around to major events," said Metro Deputy General Manager Andrew Off. "If the UFC Freedom 250 event ends after normal service hours on Sunday, Metro will stay open to get customers to their final destination. We encourage everyone to download our updated Metro Pulse app to plan trips and stay up to date with the latest service information."
Additional public safety updates will be shared ahead of significant upcoming events, including the Salute to America celebration planned for July 4 and the Freedom 250 Grand Prix race scheduled for late August.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit 250.dc.gov for information on upcoming America 250 events and activities taking place across the District, and to sign up for free event alerts by texting “DC250” to 888-777.
