Mayor Bowser Releases 2015 Accountability Report

Monday, January 11, 2016
Administration is Fulfilling 92% of Promises Made During 2014/2015 Mayoral Transition

On January 11, 2016, Mayor Muriel Bowser released her first annual Accountability Report.  The report shows that in the Bowser Administration’s first year, the Mayor has either delivered, launched or prepared to launch 92% of the promises she committed to during the 2014/2015 Mayoral transition.  Mayor Bowser has made transparency and accountability top priorities for her Administration.  In that spirit of openness, she is releasing the full results of the report to the public.

“When I was elected, I pledged to put District residents first and to help our great city reach its full potential,” said Mayor Bowser.  “I am proud of our first year in office.  We laid the groundwork and positioned the District for future growth and prosperity.  In year two, we’ll ramp up and double down on our efforts, as we continue to create pathways to the middle class in all 8 Wards.”

In her first few months in office, the Mayor recruited a talented and experienced team to improve District government for constituents and build for the future.  And she engaged thousands of residents through townhalls, budget forums and in one-on-one conversations – to ensure that the priorities of District residents are the priorities of their government.  Based on that unprecedented engagement, the Mayor put forward a budget that closed a $192 million budget gap, and made investments in the issues that matter to District residents – including an historic $100 million to protect and preserve affordable housing, and $145 million to support strategies that will end homelessness in DC.

In the year since being inaugurated, 9 of the Mayor’s 131 goals have been completed, 94 have launched and are currently being implemented, and 18 are in the planning phases.  Altogether, the Administration is delivering on 92% of its promises.  Examples of promises that have been completed include: recruiting a highly experienced Fire & Emergency Medical Services Chief Gregory Dean; launching the Office of Public-Private Partnerships; and creating the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Greater Economic Opportunity.

The breakdown of results is as follows:

“We will continue to build a better, stronger government that is responsive to the needs of our hardworking and passionate residents, “ said Mayor Bowser.  “Our promise is that every District resident — across all 8 wards, and in every corner of this city — deserves a highly effective and innovative government.”
